Organizing Your Warehouse: Bin Locations and Asset Labels
The Backbone of Fulfillment
A well-organized warehouse is essential for fast shipping and accurate order fulfillment. Without a precise labeling system, warehouse staff can spend precious hours searching for products, leading to delayed orders and frustrated customers.
Creating a Bin Location System
Every rack, shelf, and bin in your warehouse needs a unique address. A standard bin location format typically looks like this: Aisle - Rack - Shelf - Bin (e.g., A12-B-04-02). This alphanumeric code must be printed clearly on highly visible labels attached directly to the shelving.
High-Visibility and Durability
Warehouse labels must be durable. They are exposed to dust, moisture, and frequent bumping by forklifts. Using industrial-grade waterproof tags with large, bold typography ensures that pickers can read the location codes from a distance.
Using Directional Arrows and Color Coding
To further speed up the picking process, incorporate visual cues into your labels. Use color-coded tags to differentiate between different product zones (e.g., blue tags for electronics, yellow for apparel). Adding directional arrows to labels on high racks can help workers instantly identify whether an item is on the shelf above or below the tag.
